Abstract

This study was motivated by the low ability of tenth-grade students to write negotiation texts, which was caused by uninteresting learning processes and a lack of collaboration among students. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of applying a problem-based learning (PBL) model assisted by role-playing cards on the ability to write negotiation texts and the differences in learning outcomes between the use of PBL and conventional models. The method used was quantitative with a Quasi-Experimental Nonequivalent Control Group design. The research subjects were 31 tenth-grade accounting students from SMK Mahardika. Data collection techniques included pretest and posttest in the experimental and control groups. The results of the study indicate that the PBL model assisted by role-playing cards is more effective than conventional learning in improving negotiation text writing skills. This is demonstrated by the significant diference between the pretest and posttest scores of the experimental and control classes through the Mann-Whitney statistical test.
