Abstract

Auditory hallucinations are common symptoms in schizophrenia and may interfere with cognitive, emotional, and social functioning. This study aimed to examine changes in auditory hallucination scores following a combination of classical music therapy and coloring therapy among people with mental disorders at Griya PMI Peduli Surakarta. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was used with 46 participants selected through purposive sampling. The intervention was delivered for three sessions, one session per day for three consecutive days, approximately 15 minutes per session. Participants listened to instrumental classical music while coloring. The Auditory Hallucination Rating Scale (AHRS) was administered before and after the intervention. The mean score decreased from 16.67±2.386 to 9.04±2.043. Paired sample t-test showed a statistically significant pretest-posttest difference (t=17.700; df=45; p<0.001). Cohen’s d was calculated as the mean difference divided by the standard deviation of the paired difference, yielding d=2.61, a very large effect. Because the study had no control group, the findings indicate a significant pretest-posttest change and large standardized effect, but do not establish definitive causal effectiveness.
