Abstract

This study aims to (1) describe the development of EXPOSIBOX (Smart Explosion Box) media for teaching the structure of the Earth’s layers to fifth-grade elementary school students and (2) determine its quality based on validity, effectiveness, and student responses. This research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The subjects were 31 fifth-grade students of UPT SD Negeri 56 Gresik. Data were collected through interviews, expert validation sheets, comprehension tests, and student response questionnaires. The needs analysis showed the importance of semi-concrete learning media to help students understand Earth’s layers, tectonic plates, and surface characteristics. EXPOSIBOX was developed using Canva. Media expert validation achieved 97.5%, categorized as very valid, while material expert validation reached 97.75%, also categorized as very valid. The effectiveness test obtained 74%, indicating that the media was effective in supporting students’ understanding. Student responses reached 94.3%, categorized as excellent, reflecting high engagement, ease of use, and increased learning interest. Therefore, EXPOSIBOX is suitable for teaching Earth’s layer structures and can be recommended for similar instructional materials.
