Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of Task-Based Learning (TBL) in teaching vocabulary to nursing students at SMK Taruma Negara in Bogor. Many students experience difficulties in understanding, remembering, and using English vocabulary related to nursing. Therefore, Task-Based Learning was implemented as a learning approach to improve students’ vocabulary mastery through meaningful and communicative learning activities. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a non-equivalent control group. The study participants consisted of two classes of nursing students: an experimental class taught using the Task-Based Learning model and a control class taught using conventional teaching methods. The research instrument was a vocabulary test administered as a pre-test and a post-test. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, and the independent samples t-test with the aid of IBM SPSS Statistics. The results of the study indicate that the data are normally distributed and homogeneous. The independent samples t-test revealed a statistically significant difference between the experimental group and the control group, with a significance level of p < 0.001 (2-tailed Sig. < 0.05), and the t-test results showed a significant difference between the two groups (2-tailed Sig. < 0.001). The calculated t-value was 6.943 with a mean difference of 18.75000. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the mean final test score of students in the experimental class, who received instruction using the Task-Based Learning method, reached 85.60, while the control class, which received conventional instruction, achieved a mean score of 66.85. The results of the homogeneity test (Levene’s test) indicate that the data have homogeneous variances (Sig. = 0.940 > 0.05), and the t-test results show a significant difference between the two groups (two-tailed Sig. < 0.001). The calculated t-value was 6.943 with a mean difference of 18.75000. Thus, the null hypothesis (H₀), which states that there is no significant difference between the post-test scores of the two groups, was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was accepted. Students in the experimental group showed a greater increase in vocabulary mastery compared to the control group. These results indicate that the implementation of Task-Based Learning has proven effective in enhancing students’ in-depth mastery of nursing-related vocabulary, particularly at SMK Taruma Negara Bogor.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Bilingual CentreBased Learning Approach in improving the English-speaking skills of kindergarten students at TK Almayra, North Jakarta. The research problem addressed was whether this instructional approach could significantly improve young learners' speaking ability, given the difficulties children face in expressing ideas confidently in English within a bilingual, play-based classroom. This study employed a quantitative preexperimental method with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of all seven (7) students of Kindergarten B (TK B) at TK Almayra in the 2025/2026 academic year, selected through saturated (total) sampling. Students' speaking skill was assessed using five indicators, namely pronunciation, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and confidence, based on an assessment rubric adapted from David P. Harris. The results showed that students' mean speaking score increased from 52.57 in the pre-test to 83.5 in the post-test, indicating a considerable improvement after the implementation of the Bilingual Centre-Based Learning Approach. This finding suggests that the approach had a positive effect on students' ability to pronounce words, use vocabulary, speak fluently, comprehend simple instructions, and communicate with greater confidence. It can be concluded that the Bilingual Centre-Based Learning Approach is effective in improving the speaking skills of kindergarten students, and it is recommended that teachers apply meaningful, centre-based, and play-oriented activities when teaching English to young learners.

Abstract

Data was gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation as part of a qualitative research approach. One fourth-grade student with ASD participated in the study, which focused on language related to fruits and vegetables and lasted five sessions. Three primary strategies were used to apply the Look and Say Method: question-and-answer drills, repetition drills, and repetition by pointing, all of which were backed up with flashcards and actual objects. Results show that the approach successfully enhanced students' word recognition, pronunciation, and memorization skills in English. Instead of using written assessments for evaluation, quizzes, interactive questioning, and oral review were used, which allowed for precise comprehension measurement without putting the student under undue stress. The findings imply that the Look and Say Method is appropriate for kids with special needs, especially those with ASD, since it offers an organized, entertaining, and visually stimulating learning environment. In order to promote inclusive education, this study emphasizes the value of visual aids, repetition, and customized approaches.

Abstract

The Correlation Between the Use of English Movie Subtitles and Speaking Skills of Second-Semester Students at Panca Sakti University Bekasi.” An Undergraduate Thesis. English Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Panca Sakti University Bekasi, 2026. The aim of this research was to investigate the use of English movie subtitles, students' speaking skills, and the correlation between the use of English movie subtitles and speaking skills of second-semester students at Panca Sakti University Bekasi. This research employed a quantitative method with an associative correlational design. The participants were 21 second-semester students selected through total sampling. The data were collected through a questionnaire and a speaking test and analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Pearson Product Moment correlation test. The findings revealed that the students' use of English movie subtitles was classified as moderate, while their speaking skills were classified as fair. The Pearson Product Moment correlation test showed a correlation coefficient of r = -0.400 with a significance value of 0.073, which was greater than the 0.05 significance level. Therefore, there was no significant correlation between the use of English movie subtitles and the speaking skills of second-semester students at Panca Sakti University Bekasi. The coefficient of determination of 16.0% indicated that the use of English movie subtitles explained 16.0% of the variance in students' speaking skills, while the remaining 84.0% was explained by other factors not examined in this study.
