Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of customary obligations on the household financial management of tourism Tongkonan owners in North Toraja and its implications for Family Economic Sustainability. The study used a quantitative approach with a survey method of 50 tourism Tongkonan owners in Palawa Tourism Village and Ke'te Kesu. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed through validity, reliability, normality, regression, determination coefficient, and hypothesis testing. The results of the study showed that customary obligations had a positive and significant effect on household financial management with a regression coefficient of 0.884, a value of t = 7.283, and p < 0.001. Customary obligations were able to explain 52.5% of the variation in household financial management. Furthermore, customary obligations had a positive and significant effect on Family Economic Sustainability (B = 0.362; p = 0.003), while household financial management also had a positive and significant effect on Family Economic Sustainability (B = 0.347; p = 0.001). Simultaneously, the two variables were able to explain 64.9% of the variation  in Family Economic Sustainability. These findings show that customary obligations are not solely socio-cultural demands, but can encourage families to plan, allocate and control financial resources in a more structured manner. The management of customary obligations balanced with good household financial management plays an important role in supporting the economic sustainability of families who own tourism Tongkonan.
