Abstract

Fine motor development is an essential aspect of early childhood development, as it is closely related to the coordination of small muscles, hand–eye coordination, and children's readiness for future learning. One of the factors influencing fine motor development is maternal parenting practices. This study aimed to determine the relationship between maternal parenting and fine motor development among children aged 3–4 years at UPTD Puskesmas Rawat Inap Tepeleo, North Patani District, Central Halmahera Regency. This quantitative analytical study employed a cross-sectional design. A total of 30 respondents were selected using the total sampling technique. Parenting data were collected using a structured questionnaire, while children's fine motor development was assessed using an observational checklist. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Chi-square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that 70.0% of mothers applied good parenting, 13.3% applied moderate parenting, and 16.7% applied poor parenting. Most children demonstrated Age-Appropriate Development (46.7%), followed by Very Well Developed (30.0%) and Beginning to Develop (23.3%). Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between maternal parenting and fine motor development among children aged 3–4 years (p = 0.001). These findings suggest that improving parental education on appropriate parenting practices and early developmental stimulation may contribute to optimal fine motor development in young children.
