Abstract

PT. PT. SWS is a palm oil processing company operating on the island of Sumatra, focusing on the management, development, and processing of palm oil into Crude Palm Oil (CPO)—derived from the palm fruit pulp—and Palm Kernel Oil (PKO)—produced from the palm fruit kernels. Production data from the 2025–2026 period reveals that a number of the company's products fell outside quality specifications. This situation indicates issues with CPO quality control, which is influenced by key quality parameters such as free fatty acid (FFA) content, moisture content, impurity levels, and product color characteristics. Despite the production process being well-designed and executed, the risk of product non-conformance remains unavoidable. Consequently, the Six Sigma method—utilizing the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) approach—was selected as the analytical tool, as it is capable of identifying, measuring, and controlling quality issues in a systematic, data-driven manner.
