Abstract

Anemia among pregnant women remains a significant public health problem in Indonesia. Adherence to iron and folic acid supplementation is an important factor in the prevention and treatment of anemia during pregnancy, as it helps meet the nutritional needs of both the mother and the developing fetus. Educational interventions aimed at improving adherence to iron and folic acid supplementation are expected to reduce the prevalence of anemia among pregnant women. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of educational interventions on adherence to folic acid and iron supplementation in preventing anemia among pregnant women in North Patani District. This study employed a quantitative research design using a pre-experimental approach. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis to describe the frequency distribution of each variable, while bivariate analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The samples were selected using a purposive sampling technique and consisted of all pregnant women in North Patani District who met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that the proportion of respondents who adhered to folic acid supplementation increased from 33% before the intervention to 87% after the intervention. These findings indicate a significant difference in adherence before and after the educational intervention, demonstrating that health education effectively improved adherence to folic acid supplementation for preventing anemia among first-trimester pregnant women in North Patani District. It is recommended that healthcare providers strengthen educational programs and other supportive activities to improve pregnant women's adherence to folic acid supplementation as an important strategy for preventing anemia and promoting maternal and fetal health.
