Abstract

This study evaluated the effect of substituting commercial pellet with fresh Indigofera sp. leaf on fresh matter intake, dry matter intake, final body weight, and feed efficiency of Rex rabbits. Twenty male Rex rabbits aged approximately two months were allocated into a completely randomized design with four treatments and five replications: P0 (100% commercial pellet), P1 (85% pellet + 15% fresh Indigofera), P2 (70% pellet + 30% fresh Indigofera), and P3 (55% pellet + 45% fresh Indigofera), formulated to supply an equivalent dry matter allowance (± 40 g/head/day) over 30 days. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test. Fresh matter intake increased significantly (P<0.01), from 45.00 g/head/day (P0) to 93.15 g/head/day (P3), due to the high moisture content of fresh Indigofera, whereas dry matter intake differed significantly only within a narrow range (39.54-40.32 g/head/day; P<0.05) and was biologically comparable. Final body weight did not differ significantly among treatments (P>0.05; 1,173.00-1,250.00 g/head), while feed efficiency decreased significantly (P<0.05) with increasing substitution level, from 12.59% (P0) to 3.58% (P3). It is concluded that fresh Indigofera sp. leaf can replace commercial pellet up to 45% without reducing final body weight or dry matter intake, although the most feed-efficient substitution level lies within the low-to-moderate range.
