Abstract

This paper critically examines the implementation of education policies aimed at improving access and equity in rural Indonesia. While national reforms have set ambitious goals for educational inclusion, rural areas continue to face significant barriers, including inadequate infrastructure, teacher shortages, and cultural impediments. Using qualitative data derived from interviews with educators, policymakers, and community leaders, this study assesses the effectiveness of current policies in addressing these challenges. The research reveals that despite the formulation of inclusive policies, their implementation at the local level remains limited due to insufficient resources and a lack of context-specific strategies. The findings indicate that, while progress has been made, further efforts are needed to ensure that educational opportunities are accessible and equitable across rural Indonesia. The paper recommends enhancing policy implementation through greater community involvement, more equitable resource distribution, and targeted support for rural educators.

Abstract

This study examines gender equality in education within Indonesian schools, addressing both progress made and persistent challenges. While significant strides have been achieved in increasing female enrollment and reducing gender gaps in basic education, disparities in academic achievement, career guidance, and leadership roles remain evident. The paper critically evaluates the effectiveness of education policies aimed at promoting gender equality, analyzing both the successes and limitations of these initiatives. Based on an analysis of school-level data and interviews with students, teachers, and policymakers, the study identifies key areas where gender-based inequalities persist, such as in subject choice, career counseling, and leadership opportunities. The paper concludes with recommendations for reforming policies to better address these disparities, including the integration of gender-sensitive curricula and the strengthening of gender equality initiatives at both the school and policy levels.
