Abstract

Breastfeeding is the optimal nutrition for infants; however, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia remains suboptimal. Postpartum mothers often experience breastfeeding difficulties due to a lack of knowledge of proper techniques. This study aimed to determine the effect of breastfeeding education on the breastfeeding ability of postpartum mothers in Randusari Village. A pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach was used involving 30 respondents selected through accidental sampling. Breastfeeding ability was measured using the LATCH score and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that before the intervention, most respondents had moderate ability (66.7%), which significantly improved to a high category (53.3%) after education. Statistical analysis showed p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of breastfeeding education on breastfeeding ability. Breastfeeding education is effective in improving postpartum mothers’ skills and should be provided continuously from pregnancy to the postpartum period.
