Abstract

Heart failure is a major health problem with high morbidity and mortality rates, requiring adequate self-care ability to prevent complications and reduce hospital readmissions. This study aimed to determine the relationship between family support and self-care ability among patients with heart failure at RSAU Dr. M. Salamun in 2026. This quantitative non-experimental study employed a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 63 respondents were selected using an accidental sampling technique. The research instruments consisted of the Self-Care of Heart Failure Index (SCHFI) questionnaire and a family support questionnaire. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents had poor self-care ability (45 respondents; 71.4%) and low family support (37 respondents; 58.7%). The Chi-square test revealed a p-value of < 0.001 (α = 0.05), indicating a statistically significant relationship between family support and self-care ability among patients with heart failure at RSAU Dr. M. Salamun in 2026.
