Abstract

This study examines how green selection influences green performance at PT Samitex Sewon, Yogyakarta. Green culture and green commitment act as go-betweens, while green transformational leadership can change the strength of these effects. The research is based on social exchange theory. Data were collected from 245 employees selected through purposive and stratified sampling. green selection clearly strengthened both green culture and green commitment. This shows that hiring for sustainability helps grow internal environmental values. Both go-betweens also boosted green performance, showing the importance of shared values and employees' commitment to sustainable outcomes. However, green selection did not directly affect green performance. Its effect was evident only in cultural and attitudinal terms. Green transformational leadership did not have a major effect on either connection; this likely occurred because green culture and green commitment are already well established in the company, so leadership has less additional effect. Green culture and green commitment are the primary drivers of strong sustainability performance. JEL: L20, M54, Q01.
