Abstract

A pump is a type of fluid machinery used to transfer fluids from one location to a higher elevation or to a location with higher pressure. It is an energy-conversion machine that converts mechanical energy in the form of rotational motion into fluid energy in the form of pressure and velocity. Understanding pump characteristics is essential for selecting a pump that meets the required operating conditions, particularly in terms of flow capacity, head, and operational efficiency. The centrifugal pump in this study was designed with a flow capacity of 50 liters per second, a head of 35 m, and a rotational speed of 1,550 rpm. Based on the design results, the pump to be redesigned is a single-stage centrifugal pump equipped with an open radial impeller, a pump head of 50 m, and a pump power requirement of 75 kW. The design process involved comprehensive calculations, including pump head, number of stages, impeller dimensions, supporting components, efficiency, and pump characteristics. The pump is driven by an AC electric motor with a voltage of 380 V and a rotational speed/frequency of approximately 3,000 rpm/50 Hz. Thus, the production unit is expected to operate continuously, enabling the treated clean water to be distributed to the community in accordance with the specifications and performance requirements of the pump.
