Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of self control on psychological distress among recidivist at Correctional Institution X. This study employed a quantitative approach with a causal research design. The participants were 98 recidivist inmates selected using quota sampling. Data were collected using the Indonesian Version of the Self Control Scale and the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10). Data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The result showed that self control did not have a significant effect on psychological distress among recidivist, with a significance value of 0.210 (p > 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R2) was 0.016, indicating that self control explained only 1.6% of the variance in psychological distress, while the remaining 98.4% was explained by factors not examined in this study. These findings indicate that self control was not a significant predictor of psychological distress among recidivist. Therefore, other factors should be considered in understanding psychological distress among recidivist.
