Abstract

Ecclesiastical leadership is essentially a spiritual calling that models the character of Christ, rather than merely holding administrative authority. However, contemporary pastoral reality often reveals gaps where structural and administrative aspects become more prominent than the pastoral dimension of care. This study aims to analytically investigate the phrases "humility" (tapeinophrosunē) and "not seeking self-interest" (eritheia and kenodoxia) in Philippians 2:3-4 and articulate their theological implications for church leadership principles. The method employed is a qualitative library research with a historical-grammatical hermeneutical approach. The literature analysis demonstrates that Philippians 2:3-4 was Apostle Paul’s ethical-theological response to the threat of church disintegration caused by the surrounding Roman honor-shame culture. Biblical humility is not a state of psychological passivity, but an active spiritual strength that empties self-ambition to prioritize others' needs (skopeō). This study concludes that the textual integration of Philippians 2:3-4 underscores a servant leadership framework that prioritizes church unity and pastoral care relations without overemphasizing organizational managerial boundaries.
