Abstract

Employment is one of the main pillars in the development of a region, encompassing not only the economic well-being of the community but also serving as an indicator of the sustainability of economic growth in an area. In responding to the call of the times and the demands of globalization, a holistic understanding of employment prospects in Mesuji Regency is essential. Projections related to the workforce take center stage in formulating appropriate policies to support sustainable growth. The employment conditions in Mesuji Regency from 2010 to 2021 experienced significant fluctuations in the number of employed and the open unemployment rate during that period. A notable decrease in open unemployment occurred, indicating a general trend of declining open unemployment in recent years-a positive development suggesting more people are finding employment. Overall, employment prospects indicate that the demand for labor will continue to be lower than the supply, resulting in an unemployment rate of approximately 3.22-3.71% of the total labor force. Over the period from 2022 to 2028, around 64,545.43 workers are expected to be absorbed, with an estimated 51,127.39 workers absorbed during the 2022-2028 period. Besides the agricultural sector, other sectors with the potential to absorb labor include industry, trade, and services.
