Abstract

Curriculum construction in Ma’had Aly faces the challenge of preserving pesantren intellectual traditions while preparing graduates for contemporary academic demands and further study. This study aims to analyze curriculum construction at the undergraduate Ma’had Aly program of Pondok Pesantren Miftahul Huda Tasikmalaya and its role in shaping graduates’ academic readiness for further study. This research employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis and analyzed using an interactive qualitative analysis process. The findings reveal that curriculum construction follows a tradition-based model grounded in the Pola Dasar Miftahul Huda and the centrality of kitab turats. The curriculum combines epistemological continuity with pedagogical adaptation through the integration of salaf learning methods and contemporary academic practices. Graduates demonstrate strong readiness in Islamic disciplinary knowledge, textual and Arabic literacy, argumentation, and adab, but require further development in research methodology, academic writing, digital literacy, and academic English. The study proposes a tradition-based curriculum construction model consisting of epistemological continuity, pedagogical adaptation, competency bridging, and academic transition. The findings demonstrate that strengthening academic readiness does not require replacing pesantren traditions but complementing them with targeted contemporary academic competencies.
