Abstract

This study examines the megibung tradition among the Muslim community in Kediri Village, Tabanan Regency, Bali, as a manifestation of Qur’anic values within local culture. The findings show that the Muslim minority community integrates values such as brotherhood (ukhuwah), equality (musâwâh), mutual cooperation (ta‘awun), gratitude, and social harmony (tasâmuḥ) into the communal dining tradition. The study highlights Islam’s capacity for cultural adaptation without compromising essential religious teachings. Using a library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach, the study draws on Qur’anic verses, tafsir literature, academic references, and sociological studies on Balinese culture and megibung. The data were analyzed through thematic exegesis (tafsīr mawḍū‘ī) to explore the relationship between sacred texts and cultural practices. The findings support Amin al-Khulî’s view of the Qur’an as a “living text” and reinforce Qur’anic reception theory by showing how sacred values are internalized in collective daily life. Unlike previous studies emphasizing formal legal aspects or cultural syncretism, this research specifically examines megibung as a performative reception of Qur’anic messages within the framework of Living Qur’an studies.
