Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the economic growth of the tourism sector in Gianyar Regency and examine the moderating role of local culture. Tourism plays a strategic role in promoting regional economic growth through income generation, employment opportunities, and other economic activities. This study used secondary time-series data from 2010–2024 and applied the Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) method. The dependent variable was tourism sector economic growth, while the independent variables included the number of tourist visits, tourist attractions, and tourism sector revenue. The number of cultural performances served as the moderating variable. The findings indicate that the number of tourist visits and cultural performances positively and significantly affect tourism sector economic growth, whereas the number of tourist attractions and tourism sector revenue have no significant effect. Furthermore, local culture significantly moderates the relationship between tourist visits and tourism sector economic growth, indicating that stronger cultural activities enhance the economic contribution of tourism. These findings highlight the importance of integrating cultural preservation with tourism development to strengthen regional economic sustainability. The study concludes that increasing tourist visits and promoting local cultural performances are essential strategies for supporting tourism-driven economic growth in Gianyar Regency and recommends policies emphasizing sustainable local culture-based tourism development.
