Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of foreign tourist arrivals, tourism receipts, and exchange rate on Indonesia's economic growth over the period 2004–2024. A quantitative approach was employed using time series secondary data sourced from the World Bank, BPS, and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, analyzed through multiple linear regression. Partial test results indicate that foreign tourist arrivals have a positive but insignificant effect, tourism receipts have a negative and insignificant effect, while the exchange rate has a positive and significant effect on economic growth. Simultaneously, all three variables significantly influence economic growth with a high coefficient of determination. These findings suggest that the exchange rate is the most dominant variable in driving economic growth, while the tourism sector's contribution remains suboptimal due to economic leakage and weak linkages between the tourism sector and other domestic productive sectors. The results reinforce the relevance of Export-Led Growth Theory and Multiplier Effect Theory in the Indonesian context, highlighting that increases in tourist arrivals must be accompanied by improvements in visitor spending quality and stronger local industry linkages. Future research is encouraged to incorporate additional macroeconomic variables such as investment and inflation, and to adopt methods capable of capturing long-run dynamics more comprehensively.
