Abstract

This study aims to analyze the causes of Power Conditioning Module (PCM) component failure in the Thrust Reverser system of the Rolls-Royce Trent-700 engine used on the Airbus A330-300 aircraft at PT GMF AeroAsia, Tbk. The thrust reverser system is crucial for aircraft braking; thus, its failure affects flight safety and operational efficiency. Based on defect fault data from 2019–2024, there were 68 cases of thrust reverser failure, with 21 cases related to PCM malfunction. The analysis method used a Pareto diagram to identify major causes, followed by Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using a fishbone diagram and 5 Why’s Analysis. The results show that corrosion on electrical connectors is the main cause of PCM failure, contributing 67% of total cases. Contributing factors include human (lack of technician compliance), method (improper use of PPE and tightening), machine (inadequate tools), and material (corrosion-prone components). The study recommends preventive actions such as regular training on EWIS, Human Factors, and Safety Precautions, strict PPE enforcement, periodic tool inspection, and coordination with manufacturers for improved maintenance guidance. Implementing these recommendations is expected to reduce PCM failure rates and enhance the reliability of the thrust reverser system on the Airbus A330-300 aircraft.
