Abstract

Background: Stunting is a major health issue in developing countries like Indonesia, and its the prevalence reaches 21.5% This implies that Indonesia still has to struggle hard to achieve the ideal target of 14%. Stunting is not only influenced by nutritional intake but also influenced by the level of maternal nutritional knowledge. Objective: To analyze the relationship between maternal knowledge levels and the incidence of stunting in toddlers by considering confounding variables (maternal age occupation, education level, childcare patterns, access to health services, food availability, hygiene and sanitation). Method: This study employed a quantitative descriptive with a cross-sectional design conducted in January 2026. The study population was 436 mothers of toddlers and a sample of 81 respondents with a purposive sampling technique in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research instrument usedquestionnaire. Results: Based on the Spearman-rank test, maternal knowledge was in the category of poor (30.8%), sufficient (66.7%) and good (2.5%), while the incidence of stunting was in the category of very short (2.5%), short (12.3%) and normal (85.2%). The test results obtained a coefficient of a =0.05 obtained a p value = 0.791 which means the p > a = 0.05.Conclusion: There is no relationship between the level of maternal knowledge and the incidence of stunting in Sriharjo Village in the working area of Puskesmas (Community Health Center) Imogiri II, Bantul, Yogyakarta because most mothers of todalers have less knowledge found that the height of toddlers is normal or not stunted.
