Abstract

Mental health problems in adolescence are often associated with sleep disorders that affect academic performance and daily functioning. This study aims to describe the mental health status and sleep quality of adolescents in a public junior high school in Bali, Indonesia. The study used a quantitative descriptive cross-sectional design. A sample of 178 seventh-grade students was selected using stratified random sampling. Mental health status was measured using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire, while sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that most adolescents had a mental health status in the normal category, although a significant proportion were found in the borderline and abnormal categories. More than half of the respondents reported good sleep quality, while the rest experienced suboptimal sleep quality. These findings indicate that although the general condition of adolescents is relatively good, there are still at-risk groups that require special attention through early screening and school-based promotive and preventive interventions.
