Abstract

Business communication plays a vital role in shaping organizational culture, stakeholder relationships, and corporate decision-making processes. In an era of increasing corporate transparency and public accountability, ethical considerations in business communication significantly influence organizational trust, reputation, and long-term sustainability. However, empirical studies examining the implementation of ethical business communication across diverse cultural and industrial contexts remain limited. This conceptual paper aims to examine the ethical dimensions of business communication by integrating theoretical perspectives from business ethics, communication theory, and organizational behavior, while reaffirming the role of ethical principles namely transparency, honesty, fairness, and respect in fostering responsible business communication. The study employed a qualitative approach using a conceptual review design based on a systematic literature review. The review population consisted of scholarly journal articles, books, and industry reports on business communication ethics, with a final sample of 42 sources published within the last five years and selected through predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Secondary data were collected from major academic databases and analyzed using thematic analysis and critical discourse analysis to identify recurring ethical themes and patterns. The findings reveal five dominant theoretical perspectives deontological ethics, utilitarianism, virtue ethics, stakeholder theory, and discourse ethics which consistently identify transparency, honesty, fairness, and respect as the fundamental principles of ethical business communication. Organizations that cultivate a strong ethical culture tend to achieve higher stakeholder trust and a stronger corporate reputation than those that neglect these principles. This study concludes that ethically grounded business communication makes a significant contribution to organizational performance and stakeholder trust. It also recommends that organizations systematically integrate ethical principles into corporate communication policies and employee training programs to promote sustainable and responsible organizational practices.
