Abstract

This study aimed to develop a water-based fundamental movement learning model for children aged 5–6 years. The research was conducted in kindergartens (TK B) in Sleman, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, involving one school for a small-scale trial and two schools for a large-scale trial. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach adapted from the Borg and Gall model, the study included needs analysis, product design, development, expert validation, trials, revisions, and field testing. Data were collected through observations, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using qualitative and quantitative techniques. The resulting model consists of 20 structured water-based games designed to enhance locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative skills. Field testing showed improvements in locomotor skills (48%–78%), non-locomotor skills (50%–80%), manipulative skills (46%–76%), self-confidence (35%–82%), and participation (52%–88%). Expert validation yielded an overall feasibility score of 86.3%, categorized as very feasible. Teachers reported that the model was practical, engaging, and effective in increasing children’s confidence and participation during aquatic activities. In conclusion, the developed water-based fundamental movement learning model is a feasible, practical, and effective approach for promoting motor development and active participation in early childhood education.
