Abstract

This study examines the reconstruction of spiritual education through the historical pilgrimage (napak tilas) program at MA Aziziyah Islamic Boarding School Asholatu'alannabi, Bogor, as an effort to counter the rigidities of verbalistic-theoretical religious learning. Employing a qualitative approach with a phenomenological case study design, data were gathered through in-depth interviews with twelve students and mentoring teachers, participant observation, and documentation. The data were systematically analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The findings reveal that the program functions as a living laboratory based on experiential contextual learning, integrating inner vision (bashirah) with historical consciousness. The internalization of religious values occurs organically through pilgrimage, reflection (tafakur), and spiritual coping during the journey. This program exerts a transformative impact by diminishing spiritual negligence (ghoflah), evidenced by heightened nationalism, the growth of inclusive tolerance, and enhanced consistency in daily worship. Furthermore, students successfully converted physical field challenges into a space for self-conquest (jihad al-nafs). This study concludes that the historical pilgrimage program effectively fosters authentic spirituality and holistic character resilience among students.
