Abstract

Background: Anemia is a condition of hemoglobin deficiency that can reduce the oxygen transport capacity in the blood and cause tissue perfusion disorders. One of the most common interventions is blood transfusions to improve peripheral perfusion. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of blood transfusion administration in improving peripheral perfusion in anemia patients. Methods: The research design used is a descriptive case study with a nursing process approach, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The subject of the study was one anemia patient who was treated at the Alkautsar Ward of PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Bantul on March 6-8, 2025. Data was obtained through observation, interviews, physical examinations, and medical record reviews. Results: After two blood transfusions of PRC, there was an increase in hemoglobin levels from 7.6 g/dL to 11.7 g/dL. Positive clinical changes were also observed, such as pink conjunctiva, warm acrail, increased peripheral pulse strength, and increased oxygen saturation up to 99% without supplemental oxygen. Conclusion: Blood transfusion has been shown to be effective in overcoming peripheral perfusion and is not effective in patients with anemia. This intervention supports the improvement of tissue oxygenation status and overall hemodynamic stability of the patient.
