Abstract

This study aimed to identify and analyze the use of constructive journalism elements and linguistic features in the economy section of Tempo.co and The Jakarta Post online news articles, focusing specifically on determining the most used elements of constructive journalism and the most used linguistic features. An interview with experienced journalists was also conducted to validate the findings. The analysis was done on 20 news articles, comprising 10 articles from Tempo.co and 10 articles from the Jakarta Post. Based on the elements of constructive journalism, the writer discovered 34 elements in The Jakarta Post news articles and 26 elements in Tempo.co news articles, with future orientation being the most used element of constructive journalism. For the linguistic features, common words were the most used aspect with a total of 15 sentences from each media. From these findings, it can be concluded that the articles try to empower the public using a language style understood by general readers. Thus, constructive journalism here fits the theory that constructive journalism j applies positive psychology techniques.
