Abstract

ABSTRACT Chili peppers are a highly sought-after horticultural commodity, ranking second in market demand after red chilies. Consequently, many farmers opt to cultivate chili peppers to boost their income. To achieve optimal results, farmers often employ superior varieties that offer numerous benefits, including enhanced productivity, pest and disease resistance, shorter maturation periods, and improved shelf life. This research was designed to investigate the growth characteristics of various chili pepper varieties and determine which variety demonstrates the most favorable growth traits. The study was carried out over four months, spanning from October 2023 to February 2024, at Senduk Village. This research design used a Randomized Block Design (RAK) with three treatments and nine replications was utilized. Plant height, stem diameter, flowering age, and harvest age were the variables observed. The findings revealed distinct differences in growth characteristics among the three varieties tested. The Mahameru variety exhibited favorable performance in plant height and stem diameter. In contrast, the Dewata 43 variety demonstrated the earliest flowering time. Abstract

Accurate and environmentally friendly fertilization is essential to optimize the growth of vegetable crops. This study aims to examine the effects of coconut water-based Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) on the growth and yield of red amaranth (Amaranthus tricolor L.) under different application frequencies. The experiment was conducted from February to April 2025 at the Greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sam Ratulangi University, Manado. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used with four treatments: F0 (control/no LOF), F1 (LOF application once per week), F2 (twice per week), and F3 (three times per week), with each treatment receiving 250 ml per liter of water. Each treatment was replicated four times for a total of 16 experimental units and 32 plants. Observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, and fresh weight. The results showed that application of coconut water LOF once a week (F1) significantly improved plant height, leaf number, and biomass compared to the control. However, increasing frequency beyond once a week (F2 and F3) did not lead to significant improvements, suggesting that one weekly application is sufficient and efficient. Therefore, coconut water-based LOF is recommended as an effective, eco-friendly alternative for red amaranth cultivation.
