Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of using organic fertilizer as an alternative to enhance the growth and yield of bitter mustard. Red onion skins and coconut water can be utilized as ingredients for making liquid organic fertilizer (LOF), which has the potential to provide nutrients and compounds that support plant growth. The nutrient and plant growth regulator content in the LOF used in this study was not directly analyzed in the laboratory; therefore, the interpretation of the LOF’s potential content is based on relevant literature. This study aims to determine the effect of increasing concentrations of LOF made from red onion skins and coconut water on the growth and yield of bitter mustard plants, as well as to identify the concentration that yields the best results. The study was conducted in Ombolata Ulu, Gunungsitoli City, from April to June 2026. An experimental design using a completely randomized design (CRD) was employed, consisting of four treatments and four replicates. The treatments were as follows: P0 as the control, and P1, P2, and P3 as treatments with increasing concentrations of LOF. The parameters observed included plant height, number of leaves, leaf width, root length, and fresh plant weight. The results of the study showed that increasing the concentration of onion peel LOF and coconut water had a significant effect on the growth and yield of bitter mustard. Thus, treatment P3 was the most effective of the various LOF concentrations tested under the conditions of this study in enhancing the growth and yield of bitter mustard.
