Abstract

Patients who undergo tibial fracture surgery commonly experience limited mobility, resulting in reduced independence in Activities of Daily Living (ADL). ADL independence is an important indicator of successful postoperative recovery and readiness to continue care at home. One essential component of discharge preparation is discharge planning. Although discharge planning begins when patients are admitted to the inpatient ward, its implementation is often routine and lacks a structured approach. This study aimed to determine the effect of discharge planning management based on Potter and Perry’s theory on the ADL independence of postoperative tibial fracture patients at Karsa Husada Batu Regional General Hospital. This quasi-experimental study employed a two-group pretest–posttest design with a control group. A total of 40 respondents were selected using purposive sampling and assigned to intervention and control groups. Data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney test. The results showed a significant difference between the intervention and control groups, with a p-value = 0.001 (p < 0.05). The findings indicate that discharge planning management based on Potter and Perry’s theory significantly improves the independence of Activities of Daily Living among postoperative tibial fracture patients at Karsa Husada Batu Regional General Hospital.
