Abstract

Preeclampsia is a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy that can cause serious maternal and perinatal complications. Women’s ability to engage in self-management is an important part of continuing care, yet nurse-led self-management interventions have not been systematically mapped. This scoping review aimed to map the components, theoretical foundations, delivery strategies, follow-up, and outcomes of nurse-led self-management interventions for women with preeclampsia. The review followed Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and PRISMA-ScR using the Population–Concept–Context framework. PubMed, Scopus, Europe PMC, and Cochrane Library were searched through 6 July 2026 for publications from 2016–2026, supplemented by manual searching through Google Scholar. Of 719 database records, 30 duplicates were removed and 689 records were screened; two studies met the criteria through the database pathway and four additional studies through manual searching. Across six studies, education, behavioral empowerment, and follow-up were the most consistent components, each occurring in 6/6 studies. Diet occurred in 5/6 studies (83.3%), while monitoring and medication-related support each occurred in 4/6 studies (66.7%). Reported outcomes included knowledge, self-care practice, self-efficacy, health locus of control, health behavior, quality of life, clinical indicators, and pregnancy/labor outcomes. Interventions were educational, multicomponent, and continuous, but heterogeneous in content, intensity, frequency, and outcome measurement.
