Abstract

Social media is one of the primary channel for museums to communicate with the public, yet its effectiveness depends on the ability of museum staff to manage content strategically. The Samarinda City Museum has utilized active social media accounts to disseminate information to the public. As the demands of digital communication continue to grow, strengthening content planning, visual consistency, and digital content production skills has become essential. This community service program aimed to strengthen the capacity of the museum staff to manage social media independently and sustainably through the development of a training module and practice-based training. The program applied a Participatory Design  approach in four stages: (1) needs identification through observation, discussion, and SWOT analysis; (2) development of a module and content template; (3) training session, covering social media management and content creation workshop using Canva and consisting of mentoring and independence practice; and (4) evaluation through interviews. The outputs include a social media management module covering basic concepts, conten strategy, and practical management techniques, as well as editable templates. The Learning-by-doing approach enabled participants to produce content independently using the template provided. Interviews indicated that the training was considered beneficial in improving the staff’s understanding and skills in manageing the museum’s social media more professionally. The module is expected to serve as a sustainable reference for the museum staff after the program ends.
