Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effects of visual media and sign language on the thinking ability of deaf-mute children at the Hephata Children's Home. The research focused on three objectives: 1) assessing the effect of visual media on the thinking ability of the children, 2) evaluating the effect of sign language in religious education (PAK) teaching on their thinking ability, and 3) examining the combined effect of visual media and sign language in PAK teaching on their thinking ability. A descriptive quantitative method was used with a population of 36 deaf-mute children at the Hephata Children's Home. A trial was conducted on 16 deaf-mute children from the Siborongborong National Special Needs School to validate the research instruments, which were found to be both valid and reliable. Data analysis revealed that: 1) the use of visual media influenced the children's thinking ability with a 21.2% impact, 2) sign language in PAK teaching had a 25.8% impact, and 3) the combined use of visual media and sign language contributed 32.1% to the children's thinking ability. The study concluded that both visual media and sign language positively influence the cognitive development of deaf-mute children, confirming the acceptance of Ha and rejection of H0.
