Abstract

This article examines the epistemological structure of mystical reasoning in the jejampi healing tradition of the Kaur indigenous community in Ulak Pandan Village, Bengkulu Province, using Seyyed Hossein Nasr's framework of scientia sacra. It responds to positivist epistemology, which reduces revelation based knowledge and spiritual intuition to superstition without assessing them by their own criteria. The article argues that jejampi operates through three constitutive levels of reality Lahut (revelatory authority), Nasut (empirical herbal treatment), and Malakut (the imaginal world accessed through dreams, firasat, and dzauq) that collectively resist positivist reduction. Using qualitative field research combined with philosophical epistemological analysis, this study interviewed 34 informants three healers, thirty patients or villagers, and one village official. Findings show that the three levels function as a coherent, mutually supportive system, validated through internal coherence, practical efficacy, and community consensus rather than sensory verification. Unlike previous studies of Nusantara mysticism that emphasize social or semiotic functions, this article offers a systematic epistemological reading of jejampi through Nasr's scientia sacra. The findings imply that modern epistemology requires broader criteria to fairly assess indigenous spiritual knowledge systems.
