Abstract

The Covid 19 pandemic has encouraged the education sector to change its learning system from face-to-face learning to on line learning by using computers. Long-term exposure to computer screen may lead to fatigued eyes, decreased vision, and headache. The objective of the study was to determine the correlation between computer screen exposure and eye fatigue incidence among medical school students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta during the online learning period due to Covid 19 pandemic. The study used a quantitative research with analytic observational methods using a cross-sectional study approach. Eighty-three respondents were selected using a simple random sampling. Questionnaires consisting of informed consent, respondents' biodata, and Visual Fatigue Index (VFI) to measure the eye fatigue were used as the research instrument. Chi-square test was used for the statistical analysis. Chi-square test analysis obtained p value 0.024 with p<0.05, which demonstrated a significant correlation between computer screen exposure and eye fatigue incidence among medical school students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. There was a significant correlation between computer screen exposure and eye fatigue incidence among medical students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.
