Abstract

Background: Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) remains a persistent public health problem in Indonesia, including in Sleman Regency, where recorded maternal deaths rose from 8 cases in 2025 to 9 cases in 2026. Limited knowledge among pregnant women regarding the danger signs of labor often causes delays in seeking help, and video-based education has been considered an attractive and easily understood medium to raise this awareness. Objective: This study analyzed the effect of video educational media on the level of knowledge of pregnant women regarding the danger signs of labor at Kalasan Public Health Center. Methods: A quantitative study with a quasi-experimental, two-group pretest-posttest design was used, involving 52 pregnant women selected through simple random sampling and divided equally into an intervention group, which received video education three times, and a control group, which received it once. Data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test followed by an independent t-test at a significance level of 0.05. Results: the mean knowledge score of the intervention group increased from 55.3 to 87.9, while the control group increased from 54.0 to 82.5. The proportion of good knowledge rose from 0% to 92% in the intervention group and to 69% in the control group, and the independent t-test produced a p-value of 0.014 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion: Video educational media significantly improves the knowledge of pregnant women about the danger signs of labor, with a more optimal effect achieved through repeated exposure to the educational video.
