Abstract

The postpartum period is a critical phase involving biological and emotional transitions. Physical recovery includes uterine involution, restoration of pelvic floor muscle tone, and perineal wound healing, while psychological recovery requires emotional stability. Inadequate recovery may increase maternal morbidity. Postpartum yoga may support physical and psychological recovery by reducing stress and improving sleep and mood. To analyze the effectiveness of postpartum yoga in accelerating physical and psychological recovery among postpartum women. This quasi-experimental study used a pretest-posttest control group design. Sixty postpartum women selected through purposive sampling were divided into intervention and control groups, with 30 participants each. The intervention group received postpartum yoga and standard care, while the control group received standard care only. Recovery was assessed using the REEDA scale and EPDS. Results: In the intervention group, the mean REEDA score decreased from 1.30 to 0.03 (p=0.001), while the mean EPDS score decreased from 2.33 to 0.30 (p<0.001). Both scores differed significantly before and after the intervention. Postpartum yoga is an effective, safe, practical, and low-cost complementary intervention supporting postpartum physical and psychological recovery. It can be integrated into midwifery services following health screening and adaptation to each woman’s condition.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a major transitional phase involving physical and psychological changes, which often trigger anxiety in expectant mothers. Unresolved anxiety can lead to complications such as preeclampsia, low birth weight (LBW), impaired fetal development, and postpartum depression. Mindfulness-based prenatal yoga serves as a non-pharmacological intervention combining physical exercise with mindfulness. There is a need to better introduce prenatal yoga and to investigate the integration of mindfulness; furthermore, the use of modern measurement methods remains rare in regional areas, warranting further study. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of mindfulness-based prenatal yoga on anxiety in pregnant women. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach was employed. Thirty pregnant women were divided into an intervention group (n=15) and a control group (n=15). Anxiety levels were measured using the HARS and PRAQ-R2 scales before and after the intervention. Within-group changes were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Results: No significant changes in anxiety scores were observed in the control group based on either HARS (p=0.054) or PRAQ (p=0.150). Conversely, the intervention group showed significant changes in anxiety scores based on both HARS (p=0.001) and PRAQ (p=0.001). Conclusion: Mindfulness-based prenatal yoga demonstrates potential for reducing anxiety in pregnant women and can be implemented in maternal health services, particularly as a non-pharmacological intervention within antenatal care

Abstract

Background: Women of reproductive age (WRA), aged 15–49 years, require adequate physical preparation and knowledge before pregnancy. Pregnancy eligibility includes physical and mental health, good nutritional status, and the absence of conditions that may adversely affect pregnancy and the fetus. Objective: To determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes among WRA and pregnancy eligibility. Methods: This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design involving 41 WRA in the Banjarmasin Indah Public Health Center working area who attended Tunjung Biru Integrated Health Post. Respondents were selected through purposive sampling, and data were collected using a questionnaire. Results: Among respondents who were not eligible for pregnancy, 36.6% had positive attitudes and 39.1% had good knowledge. Among those eligible for pregnancy, 31.7% had positive attitudes and 34.0% had good knowledge. As more than 20% of cells had an expected count below five, Fisher’s exact test was used. A p-value > 0.05 indicated no significant relationship between knowledge or attitudes and pregnancy eligibility. Conclusion: Good knowledge and positive attitudes do not necessarily determine pregnancy eligibility, which may also be influenced by age, nutritional status, anemia, parity, birth spacing, and comorbidities. Integrated preconception education and screening are therefore needed to support healthy pregnancy preparation.
