Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of multilingualism in Devin Kosasih's TikTok content as a digital communication phenomenon and explain this practice based on Marshall McLuhan's Global Village concept. The study employed qualitative methods with a descriptive approach. Data consisted of Indonesian, English, and Mandarin speeches obtained through listening and note-taking techniques from Devin Kosasih's TikTok content. Data analysis was conducted using referential and interpretive matching methods, with reference to the concepts of bilingualism, multilingualism, and Global Village theory. The results show that multilingualism is manifested through a combination of Indonesian, English, and Mandarin within a single utterance. From a sociolinguistic perspective, this phenomenon demonstrates code-mixing, but this study views it as a form of multilingual communication in digital media. Indonesian serves to build rapport with local audiences, English expands the reach of global communication, while Mandarin maintains the speaker's linguistic identity. These findings demonstrate that TikTok has become a global communication space that enables interaction across languages and cultures without geographical boundaries. The use of multilingualism also serves as an adaptive, interactive, and inclusive communication strategy to clarify messages, enhance content appeal, and reach diverse audiences.
