Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease that may lead to complications, including sexual dysfunction in both men and women. Untreated sexual dysfunction may trigger psychological stress, which can further worsen patients' overall health status. This study aimed to describe the stress levels among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus experiencing sexual dysfunction at the Limboto Community Health Center, Gorontalo Regency. A descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted among 61 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used were the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10), the International Index of Erectile Function-5 (IIEF-5) for male respondents, and the Female Sexual Function Index-19 (FSFI-19) for female respondents. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics with SPSS version 22. Most male respondents (33.3%) experienced mild and mild-to-moderate sexual dysfunction, while the majority of female respondents (53.6%) experienced mild sexual dysfunction. The distribution of stress levels indicated that moderate stress was the predominant category among both male (72.7%) and female respondents (64.3%). Most patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus experienced mild to moderate sexual dysfunction and moderate levels of stress. These findings highlight the importance of routine screening and counseling for stress and sexual function as integral components of holistic care for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
