Abstract

This study was motivated by the problem of frequent flooding in Salati Village, Taliabu Barat Laut District, caused by low community awareness in maintaining the environment and suboptimal drainage management. This study aims to analyze the role of the community in flood prevention efforts in Salati Village. The method used was descriptive qualitative, employing observation, interviews, and documentation with informants (the village head, community leaders, and residents). The results show that the community plays an important role through keeping the environment clean, community clean-up activities (kerja bakti), and reducing the habit of littering, although their involvement is not yet evenly distributed. Supporting factors include the awareness of part of the community and support from the village government, while inhibiting factors are the low discipline of some residents and limited facilities. Strengthening community-based roles and village facility support are key to effective flood prevention. The implication is that more targeted community empowerment is needed to create a better environmental management system.
