Abstract

This study aims to analyze community economic empowerment through the production of simple dishwashing soap as an effort to address extreme poverty in Sempajaya Village, Berastagi District, Karo Regency, North Sumatra. The activity was conducted on August 25, 2026, using a practice-based training approach that emphasized improving community skills, independence, creativity, and economic opportunities. The activity stages included education on the benefits and economic potential of dishwashing soap production, demonstrations of the production process, hands-on practice by participants, product label design using the Canva application, and product promotion to village officials and the wider community. The results showed that participants gained new knowledge and skills in processing simple materials into useful household products with potential market value. Furthermore, the activity encouraged community members to identify simple business opportunities that could be developed with relatively affordable capital. Empowerment through dishwashing soap production is expected to serve as an initial step toward building community economic independence and supporting sustainable efforts to address extreme poverty through the utilization of local skills and the development of productive businesses. This activity also strengthened community awareness that simple household products can be developed into sustainable productive economic activities that benefit families and the wider community.
