Abstract

On this occasion the author highlights the tradition of the Suro carnival, which is an annual traditional celebration in Surakarta, Indonesia. This tradition has deep meaning for the local community, namely as a form of respect for ancestors, a request for safety, and a prayer for blessings. The sacredness of the Suro carnival is faced with the challenges of modernization and social change, such as noise and lack of awareness of the sacredness of the ceremony. This work is inspired by art theory and famous artists such as Jompet Kuswidananto and Gregorius Sidharta. By expanding insight into the sacredness of the Suro carnival, the installation reminds us of the negative impact of noisy behavior during the event. It is hoped that this work can inspire artists to maintain customs in the modern era and introduce them through works of art and can contribute to society to reflect on the importance of maintaining balance and harmony between humans and nature, as well as respecting existence that is considered sacred in everyday life, by its potential impact is widespread throughout Indonesia.
