Abstract

When a system is operational but lacks adequate Requirements Engineering (RE) documentation, reverse engineering is required to reconstruct system requirements. This condition applies to the General Secretariat Site of the Information Systems Student Association (HIMSI) at XYZ University, which serves as the object of this study. The organization can develop larger and better applications/systems based on this document. Goal-Oriented Requirements Engineering (GORE) is a software engineering approach that identifies and analyzes system goals to ensure alignment with organizational objectives. This study applied GORE using the (Knowledge Acquisition in automated Specification) KAOS method in reverse engineering to the HIMSI General Secretariat Sites at XYZ University. A qualitative approach, including interviews, surveys, and observations, was conducted with managers, HIMSI members and students, identifying three main objectives, improving information accessibility, facilitating communication, and providing a sharing platform. The KAOS model sets 'Improving Accessibility and Effectiveness of the HIMSI Information System' as the primary goal with four sub-objectives. Validation showed an 85% approval rate, and implementing the model's suggestions is expected to increase user satisfaction from 81% to 90%. This study contributes to needs based information systems development and serves as a reference for similar organizations.
