Abstract

The utilization of solar energy as a renewable energy source requires a reliable energy storage system because its availability depends on solar irradiation intensity. Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries are widely used as an energy storage medium due to their long cycle life, high safety, and stable voltage characteristics. This study aims to analyze the performance and efficiency of a 200 Ah LiFePO4 battery in a Solar Power Generation (PLTS) system equipped with 420 Wp solar panels, a 24 V system voltage, and a 1.2 kW hybrid off-grid inverter. The research was conducted experimentally through battery charging and discharging tests by observing voltage, current, power, energy, State of Charge (SoC), Depth of Discharge (DoD), and operating duration. The results showed that the charging process lasted for 3 hours, with the SoC increasing from 23% to 90%. The energy supplied to the system during the charging process was 1,376.18 Wh, while the energy stored in the battery was 841.30 Wh, resulting in a charging efficiency of 94%. During the discharging process, the test lasted for 4 hours with a battery efficiency of 75%, while the inverter output voltage remained relatively stable in the range of 217–218 V AC. These results indicate that the LiFePO4 battery demonstrated good performance and reliability as an energy storage medium for a 420 Wp, 24 V solar power system and has the potential to support more efficient and sustainable utilization of solar energy.
