Abstract

Background: Nosocomial infections remain a major challenge in healthcare services as they contribute to increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. The appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a key preventive measure, and therefore the knowledge and attitudes of nurses are essential factors that may influence their compliance with PPE use. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design with a sample of 83 nurses selected using a random sampling technique at Jailolo Regional General Hospital. The research instruments consisted of questionnaires on knowledge, attitudes, and compliance with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The study was conducted from July to September 2025. Data were analyzed bivariately using the Chi-Square test. Results: The majority of respondents demonstrated good knowledge (85.5%), positive attitudes (86.7%), and high compliance with PPE use (96.4%). The Chi-Square test indicated a significant relationship between knowledge and PPE compliance (p = 0.000), as well as between attitudes and PPE compliance (p = 0.000). Conclusion: The findings indicate that both knowledge and attitudes are significantly associated with nurses’ compliance with PPE use. Strengthening educational programs and fostering positive attitudes among nurses are recommended to enhance adherence to infection prevention procedures in healthcare settings.
