Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) remains a global health problem and often causes respiratory disorders, including decreased oxygen saturation. This condition requires effective nursing interventions to improve respiratory function. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of clapping therapy in increasing oxygen saturation among adolescents with pulmonary TB at Dr. Saiful Anwar Regional Hospital, Malang. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach. The sample consisted of 30 respondents, divided into an intervention group and a control group, with 15 respondents each. The intervention group received clapping therapy combined with nebulizer treatment, while the control group received standard therapy using a nebulizer only. Measurements were taken before and after the intervention using a sphygmomanometer, pulse measurement, and pulse oximeter. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and independent t-test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed a significant increase in oxygen saturation in the intervention group from 95.73% to 99.80% with a p-value of 0.001. Meanwhile, changes in blood pressure and pulse rate were not statistically significant. These findings indicate that clapping therapy is effective in improving oxygenation without negatively affecting hemodynamic parameters. In conclusion, clapping therapy is an effective, safe, and applicable nursing intervention to improve oxygen saturation in adolescents with pulmonary tuberculosis.

Abstract

Background Neonatal asphyxia is one of the leading causes of neonatal mortality. Prompt and appropriate management involves the administration of positive pressure ventilation (PPV) as soon as possible, ideally within the first minute of life (the "golden minute"). Delayed administration of PPV can lower the infant's Apgar score and increase the risk of complications. Aim The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between the timing of positive pressure ventilation and Apgar scores in asphyxiated neonates. Method This study employed a descriptive-analytic method with a cross-sectional approach to investigate the relationship between the timing of PPV and Apgar scores in asphyxiated neonates. The study population consisted of all neonates with asphyxia admitted to the NICU of Jailolo General Hospital from February to July 2025, totaling 52 infants. The sampling technique used was total sampling. The research instrument consisted of a secondary data observation sheet, prepared based on the medical record format for asphyxiated neonates in the NICU of Jailolo General Hospital. Result The results showed that, among the 52 asphyxiated neonates studied, the majority received PPV within less than one minute after birth (59.6%), while 40.4% received PPV after more than one minute. Conclusion Neonates who received positive pressure ventilation within the first minute of life had better Apgar scores compared to those who received ventilation after one minute.

Abstract

Background Hypertension is one of the major chronic diseases that remains a primary health issue in society. One crucial factor influencing the success of hypertension management is the patient's level of knowledge about the disease and adherence to prescribed medication. Non-adherence to treatment often leads to serious complications such as stroke, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge levels and medication adherence among hypertensive patients at Kedi Health Center. This study employed a descriptive analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The population included all hypertensive patients visiting Kedi Health Center between March and June 2025, totaling 55 respondents. Sampling was conducted using a total sampling technique. The research instrument was a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, covering knowledge about hypertension and medication adherence. The results showed that most respondents were aged 46–60 years (54.5%), female (67.3%), and had a secondary education level (high school, 45.5%). Good knowledge levels were recorded in 60% of respondents, adequate in 27.3%, and poor in 12.7%. High adherence was recorded in 58.2% of respondents, moderate in 27.3%, and low in 14.5%. The Chi-Square test indicated a significant relationship between knowledge and adherence (p = 0.012, p < 0.05), with patients having good knowledge tending to be more adherent. The discussion of these results aligns with previous research by Bismantara et al. (2022), which showed that patients with good knowledge have 3.2 times greater odds of adherence. Based on the Health Belief Model, perceptions of the risk of hypertension complications encourage adherence. Other factors such as family support and health education also play a role. Study limitations include a small sample size, necessitating further research. Practical implications include enhancing counseling at health centers for better blood pressure control. The study concludes that there is a significant relationship between knowledge levels and medication adherence among hypertensive patients. Increasing knowledge through regular health education can improve adherence and aid in blood pressure management for hypertensive patients
