Abstract

Strengthening the capacity of local institutions is an important part of improving the quality of assistance for Remote Indigenous Communities (KAT), especially in areas with socio-cultural diversity and accessibility constraints such as Merauke Regency. This community service activity aims to describe the process of implementing technical guidance and assistance carried out to strengthen the capacity of the management of the Asmat Maju dan Sejahtera (YAMSA) Merauke Branch. The implementation uses a participatory, andragogical, and needs-based approach through the stages of coordination, needs assessment, technical guidance, simulation and practice, field assistance, monitoring, reflection, and institutional follow-up. Activity data was collected through interviews, focus group discussions, participatory observation, documentation studies, and implementation process notes. The results of the community service show that the capacity building process takes place through three main focuses, namely needs-based program planning, participatory assistance skills, and simple monitoring and evaluation. At the field stage, the management is involved in community discussions, identification of problems and potentials, mapping actors, facilitation practices, recording activities, and discussion of follow-up actions. The activity also strengthens attention to organizational governance, documentation, coordination, and the use of social capital and local wisdom in assistance. The service emphasizes that technical guidance followed by field practice and reflection is more appropriate to meet institutional needs with the context of KAT empowerment in Merauke.
