Abstract

Stroke may cause metabolic disturbances and increased nutritional requirements, leading to metabolic stress. Urine Urea Nitrogen (UUN) is used as an indicator of metabolic stress levels. This study aimed to determine the correlation between energy and protein intake adequacy with metabolic stress levels based on UUN in stroke patients hospitalized at RSD Idaman Banjarbaru. This study used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of hospitalized stroke patients at RSD Idaman Banjarbaru. The sample included 15 respondents selected using a total sampling technique based on inclusion criteria. The variables studied were energy intake, protein intake, and metabolic stress levels based on UUN. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and biochemical measurements. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed that most respondents experienced deficits in energy intake (40%) and protein intake (33.3%). Most respondents had mild metabolic stress levels based on UUN (93.3%). Statistical analysis showed no significant correlation between energy intake adequacy and metabolic stress levels (p = 0.287 > 0.05), and no significant correlation between protein intake adequacy and metabolic stress levels (p = 0.241 > 0.05). Based on the findings, it can be concluded that energy and protein intake adequacy were not correlated with metabolic stress levels based on Urine Urea Nitrogen (UUN) in stroke patients.
